Milk as a cause for Migraine

Dairy products, especially cultured ones, have a reputation of being a major inducer of migraine. Some people find that eliminating these specific food groups on a trial basis offers the best and practical approach. These dairy products include milk, ice cream, sour cream, cheese, yogurt and other dairy containing sources.

The types of milk that are possible causes of migraine include:

  • Cow’s milk
  • Goat’s milk
  • Soy milk
  • Buttermilk
  • Chocolate milk

You can reduce the frequency and intensity of you migraine headache by avoiding or reducing milk intake in your diet. The only known class of milk that can help minimize migraine is skim milk.

Warning Signs that a Migraine is Coming

Warning signs or symptoms that a migraine is coming include vision disturbances or aura, which can occur in both eyes.  It may involve a temporary blind spot, a blurred vision, eye pain, seeings stars or zigzag lines or tunnel vision. Not all migraine sufferers however has an aura but those who do usually develop one about 10 to 15 minutes before the headache.

Severity of a Migraine

The migraine headache can be dull or severe and depending on the severity of the migraine, this can be disabling to a person for the duration of the migraine headache. The pain is usually felt behind the eyes or in the back of the head or neck. The headache can start on either side of the head or both, which can be worse on one side of the head or both. A throbbing, pounding or pulsating pain across all areas of the head will be felt that could last up to 72 hours. The pain usually starts as a dull ache which can get worse within minutes and last for hours and even days.

Symptoms that Occur with a Headache

Other symptoms  are chills, increased urination, fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting, numbness, tingling or weakness, problems concentrating or finding the right words,  sensitivity to lights and sounds and sweating, which can occur with a headache.

Soy can trigger a Migraine

People who do not suffer from migraine will never understand how the blinding pain can be so debilitating. A migraine  can result in your inability to work or the immediate response of confining yourself into a quiet, dark room throughout the duration of your migraine. A migraine at times can last up to 4 days for some people.

If you are suffering from migraine, the only pain relief that you have complete control of is a change in your diet. You can use the power you have in your hand to control your migraine by making a journal of what you eat or drink. Figuring out what triggers your migraine can easily be identified by making a reference of what you’ve recorded. You can then work out a personal diet based on what you have discovered.

Soy as Food Additive

One of the food preservatives that is known to cause migraine is Soy, especially fermented ones, since it contains high levels of tyramine. Tyramine is a natural substance formed from the breakdown of protein as food ages. It is mostly found in aged, fermented or spoiled foods.
