People who do not suffer from migraine will never understand how the blinding pain can be so debilitating. A migraine can result in your inability to work or the immediate response of confining yourself into a quiet, dark room throughout the duration of your migraine. A migraine at times can last up to 4 days for some people.
If you are suffering from migraine, the only pain relief that you have complete control of is a change in your diet. You can use the power you have in your hand to control your migraine by making a journal of what you eat or drink. Figuring out what triggers your migraine can easily be identified by making a reference of what you’ve recorded. You can then work out a personal diet based on what you have discovered.
Soy as Food Additive
One of the food preservatives that is known to cause migraine is Soy, especially fermented ones, since it contains high levels of tyramine. Tyramine is a natural substance formed from the breakdown of protein as food ages. It is mostly found in aged, fermented or spoiled foods.
Some soy sauces also list MSG. MSG or monosodium glutamate is a sodium salt of the non-essential amino acid glutamic acid. Used as a food additive and commonly marketed as flavor enhancer, its trade names include Ajinomoto, Vetsin and Accent. It is a stable colorless solid that is degraded by strong oxidizing agents predominantly made from wheat gluten.
Example, powdered soy protein drink. Also, miso and the fermented soy bean cake, as these are prepared by processes involving hydrolysis or a breakdown of soy protein, which liberates. Foods loaded with MSG should also be avoided like soy burgers and dietary protein supplements that contain soy protein concentrate.
